About Dakshinamurthy Stotram in English
Dakshinamurthy Stotram is a prayer dedicated to Lord Dakshinamurthy, who is one of the forms of Lord Shiva. Dakshinamurthy is regarded as the conqueror of the senses, who has ultimate awareness and wisdom. The word ‘Dakshinamurthy’ literally means ‘one who is facing south’. Therefore, he is depicted as a south-facing form of Lord Shiva. Dakshinamurthy is regarded as the ultimate Guru, who will help disciples to go beyond ignorance. So if one doesn’t have a Guru, one can worship Lord Dakshinamurthi as his Guru, and in due course of time they will be blessed with a self-realized Guru.
There are temples dedicated to Lord Dakshinamurthy especially in parts of South India, where he is worshipped as the supreme teacher. He is often depicted as a calm figure, sitting under the banyan tree and surrounded by disciples.
Dakshinamurthy Stotram is composed by the great saint Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. It is composed of ten verses, each describing a different aspect of Lord Dakshinamurthy. The themes of the Dakshinamurti mantra are knowledge and spiritual wisdom. It emphasizes the importance of knowledge and how a Guru can guide a seeker toward self-realization.

tasmai shree gurumurtaye nama idam shree dakshinaamurtaye || 6 ||Like how Rahu eclipses Sun and Moon in the sky, the power of maya eclipses the true nature of self, leading to ignorance and delusion. During deep sleep, all sense organs are withdrawn leading to emptiness. However, after awakening, we realize that this is the same entity that was in the state of sleep.
